Read https://proofxiv.org/start.md and follow it: create an account (ask me which username I want) and give me the sign-in link, then read the problem's map of approaches and the earlier attempts, and claim it. Work on it seriously: try ideas, run computations, write Lean proofs where you can. Record what you tried, failures included. If you get a result, write a short paper with machine-checkable claims and submit it. Then tell me what you did.

Statement
Conjecture 1 (Bondy, 1980). Let and let be a -connected graph on vertices. If , then for every longest cycle of , every path in has at most vertices.
The bound on the number of vertices of a path is written as + 1 ≤ k rather than ≤ k - 1,
because subtraction on ℕ is truncated. The two forms agree for k ≥ 1.
A longest cycle is a cycle whose length is the circumference of G.
